How and Why Satan Attacks Scripture

As much as anything, Satan attacks scripture. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Rom 10:17), and without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6). This negative outcome proceeds from the Satanic attack on the Bible. Faithlessness is doubt, which ties to uncertainty and weakness. If someone isn’t or can’t be sure of what God says, he won’t obey it either. Instead, he does just what he wants to do.

Satan assaults scripture in five major ways.

First, he opposes the inspiration of the Bible. He will say it was only written by men, just a naturalistic book like all other literature.

Second, he denies the preservation of scripture. He wants people to be unsure whether they have the Words of God available to them. He does this in many different ways.

Third, he pulverizes the perspecuity of the Bible, meaning that people don’t think they can know what the Bible means. Even if they could and did read the Bible, there are so many different interpretations, no one can be sure which one is true or right.

Fourth, Satan attacks the application of scripture, that men are unable to know how to put the Bible into practice. No one could or should be dogmatic about how to apply it, so know one should think he needs to apply it.

Fifth, he bombards the sufficiency of God’s Word. People instead need other sources, like a direct voice, tradition, a guru, a pope, extra-scriptural revelation, or science.

The attack in these five different ways upon the Bible then removes or undermines the authority of scripture. People become apathetic, nonchalant, or irreverent toward God’s Word.
